The best Mother's Day gifts are cherished for years to come. Many times homemade presents are easily adapted to all craft levels and all ages.
Easy Crafts with Pictures
Gather a few family photos for some unique gift choices.
- Make a photo bookmark by mounting an entire photo or smaller cut-outs from a picture onto paper or card stock. Use clear contact paper to "laminate" the gift.
- Use colored air-hardening clay to make a picture frame for a favorite family photo. Roll out the clay and cut out an opening for a picture. Press gemstones, buttons or small shells into the clay for decoration. Write a name and date on the edge and allow the clay to harden and dry.
- Cut out around the edges of individual people in photographs. Stick a magnet to the back of each cut-out for a collage of refrigerator pictures.
Use Clothespins to Make Great Gifts
Hinged clothespins offer many craft opportunities.
- Refrigerator Magnets- Glue decorative paper onto one side of a hinged clothespin. Find an old flat refrigerator magnet. Cut out a strip to fit on the other side of the clothespin. Glue the backside of the magnet to the clothespin. The magnetic clothespin can hold important items on the refrigerator.
- Bulletin Board paper Holders- Cover, paint or decorate one side of a hinged clothespin. Glue a thumbtack to the other side to create a beautiful clip for Mom's bulletin board.
- Toast Grabber- Glue tongue depressors to each side of a hinged clothespin. Decorate the tongue depressors with messages. Place the gift near the toaster so Mom can get toast out of the toaster without burning her fingers.
Mother's Day Presents for Gardeners
Many moms enjoy gardening and flowers. Prepare some helpful and fun gifts to indulge her green thumb.
- Garden Markers- Paint or decorate several wooden spoons. On the spoon part, glue a cut out picture of the plant to be marked in the garden- "peas", "cherry tomatoes", etc. With a permanent marker, write the name of the plant on the upper part of the handle.
- Pots of Love- Small terra cotta pots can be easily decorated with paint, buttons, sequins, markers, pieces of broken pottery, tiles, beads, marbles, beach glass, or small shells. Plant a flower or "plant a candy garden" of lollipops or candies glued to popsicle sticks.
Mother's Day Coupon Books
Make a coupon book or chore card for mom this year. Prepare a list of chores such as, "fold the laundry", "walk the dog", "clear the table", "wash dishes", "breakfast in bed". Write each chore on a small piece of paper or print them as a list on a full sheet of paper. The small pieces of paper can be assembled and stapled together in book form or put loosely in a decorative jar. The list of chores on a card can be checked off or punched with a whole punch as they are redeemed.
There are many options to delight Mom this Mothers Day with a thoughtful gift crafted with love. Add a hug and this year's gift will be a sure winner.
