Searching for some family fun this summer? Movies, at the theater or at home, are a great way to bring the family together.

The long hot days of summer offer families an opportunity to relax and enjoy some time together. Sharing a great family movie, new release or old classic, works for all ages.

Free Movies at Regal Theaters

Regal Movie Theaters have offered free movies throughout the summer for nearly a decade. All movies are rated "G" or PG" and are aired on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at 10am at select theaters around the U.S. These free films are an ideal opportunity to introduce young ones to watching movies in a theater.

Tickets are only available at the box office on the date of the showing and are first-come, first-served. Check out the Regal Entertainment Group site to find theaters and films showing in each state. Parents and kids can see a film in their hometown and check out locations for their vacation destination in case a rainy day activity is needed.

Nearly Free Family Movies

AMC Theaters offers a "Summer Movie Camp" at 214 of their locations in summer 2010. There is a $1 admission cost, but all admission and concession proceeds benefit Variety – The Children's Charity and The Will Rogers Institute. The movies are shown every Tuesday at 10am throughout the summer. Tickets are available one week prior to the scheduled show date. Go to the AMC Movie site to find locations and films.

Cinemark's Summer Movie Clubhouse offers "G' and "PG" rated movies all summer. There is a $1 admission cost, or families can choose to purchase a $5 punch card which is good for 10 films. Participating movie theater locations can be found throughout the U.S.

Harkins Theaters, located primarily in Arizona and California, have been offering family summer movies for over 30 years. Season tickets are available for ten movies for under $1 per movie, or at a first-come, first served cost of $2 at the box office. Films in this program are available Monday through Friday at 9:45am.

Free Movies to Watch at Home

Online movie sites offer a wide variety of family movies. These films can be watched directly on a laptop or personal computer. With the proper cables, laptops can be connected to the television for viewing movies on the TV. Check out Hulu family movies for hundreds of free family films.

Already have a Netflix account? In addition to the movies mailed to your home, Netflix offers free instant-watch movies and classic family television shows. For Netflix users with a Nintendo Wii, a free disc from Netflix allows users to stream movies directly through the Wii.

Whether in a cool air-conditioned theater, or in the comfort of home, family movies bring all ages together. Paired with a free or cheap price tag, summer movie fun is second to none.
